Rocking Chair

This year for Christmas Rob and I decided to repair and reupholster Mom's old rocking chair. We had to take it all apart, replace broken pieces, strip off all the old stain, put everything back together and restain and finish the woodwork. The chair has now been sent out to get new upholstery. Mom picked out the fabric, but won't be allowed to see the chair until Christmas. While looking for new upholstery we found out that the chair was probably made sometime in the 1850's. He are some pictures of the process.
We don't have the chair back yet to see what it looks like finished, but we will post them when we it is finished. Mom is so excited to have this chair back in one piece. It belonged to her Grandfather and used to be in his house until the chair got too old for indoors and was moved out onto the front porch. Mom found the chair years later sitting in water out in the chicken coop. She had the chair upholstered sometime in the 70's but the chair broke when our family was in Colorado. She broght the chair to Idaho in hopes that she could have it repaired one day. Rob had a lot of fun fixing up the chair and learned a lot.
